Without the teachers, employees feeling appreciated and without longtime committed employees, our students wouldn't receive the best education they deserve.Īs a school board member, to help address the important issues, I would encourage, participate and recognize all people in the district - from Chief School Administrator, administrators, paraprofessionals, cooks, janitors etc. I believe those important issues have a direct impact on our students' success. I decided to re-run for North Slope Borough School Board Seat C, because I think sometimes politics and power get in the way of our actual purpose and focus the students. Rock is running for re-election, but has not responded to multiple emails and calls with questions about her decision to run for re-election. Nancy Rock is currently the school board president and fills the Point Hope and Point Lay Seat D. Nora Jane Burns will stay in the Kaktovik seat and Madeline Hickman in the seat for Wainwright. Robyn Burke, Qaiyaan Harcharek and Charles Brower will keep their Utqiagvik seats until next year. And that's why I'm here today.Three candidates are running for the two seats in the North Slope Borough School District School Board of Education this October: Incumbent Nancy Rock, incumbent Frieda Nageak and a first-time candidate Tariek Qalayuaq Oviok.
